EDTA chelated iron, namely sodium iron ethylenediaminetetraacetate (NaFeEDTA), is a new type of chelated iron nutritional fortifier. It has a good taste with no rusty flavor. The iron absorption rate of EDTA chelated iron is 2-3 times that of ferrous sulfate. It is safe and free of toxic and side effects, and has been listed as "Generally Recognized as Safe" (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). During the absorption process, EDTA can also combine with harmful elements and promote their rapid excretion, thus acting as an antidote.
